It’s all change at Kibworth Golf Club as Head Green-keeper, Chris Butlin retired in March after being employed by the club for 30 years. Chris is highly respected throughout the Midlands and County and his knowledge and advice have been regularly sought by his peers. Over the years he has overseen steady and definite improvements to the course; this has been achieved despite changing weather patterns and increased pressure by restrictive legislation. 

Gymnastics County Finals 
In March our year 5/6 gymnastics team represented the school and the Blaby and Harborough District at the County Finals. The standard of the competition was very high and our gymnasts had to face very strong opponents. Our girls performed brilliantly and we finished the day as bronze medallists. Well done Amelie, Emie-Rae, Natalia and Madison. 

On Friday 15 March 2019 the annual Village Quiz Night was held at the home of John and Anne Emery.

How often do you drive along country roads or go for a walk and comment on the amount of litter? Kibworth resident, Liz Gilbert, decided she wanted to do something about it and has started a campaign to encourage everyone who enjoys walking in the countryside to make an effort to pick up rubbish. As she says “it’s our countryside so we have to look after it”. In the last few weeks Liz has collected over 40 bags of rubbish, ten of them filled with items found on the Kibworth to Tur Langton road when it was closed to traffic. 

The roof of one of Leicestershire’s most iconic churches has now been replaced with stainless steel after callous thieves stripped the lead off it three times. The replacement is not worth as much to scrap metal thieves as lead thus detering further crime. 

We started the year with a bit of exercise (not too much), we had an evening of ten pin bowling. 

Two Shires Medical Practice and Kibworth Medical Centre are set to merge into one practice next month offering patients more choice in access to health services.

On Thursday 2 May, you can have your say on who will represent you on the 45 parish councils in the Harborough district, including those within the Chronicle distribution area, for the next four years.

Our 2019 programme began with a talk and demonstration by local artist Sarah Luke on Fused Glass work. Sarah has always had an interest in creative, artistic work which began with taking art at school and was followed up by studying at Charles Keene College (now Leicester College). However, her early career as a photographer’s studio assistant - which took her all around the country setting up photo shoots - was cut short when her employer’s business folded; as a matter of expediency Sarah went to work in a betting shop. Family life followed, and her artistic endeavours were put on hold, although she still retained an interest in creative arts. Even the demands of caring for three young grandchildren did not deter her from artistic interests.

Thank you to Jennifer Rogers of Husbands Bosworth who has kindly let me have this old postcard showing the High Street and the old mud-walled cottage on the right. The mud cottage with thatched roof was demolished around 1949/50. Such a sad loss of this charming piece of Kibworth’s history. The last occupant was Charlie Everitt and his son, Ted. All that remains to this day is the front wall of the old cottage.
