After a fantastic spring and summer term, spending nearly every week meeting outdoors on our land, our Squirrel Scouts have led our group in an exciting project to create an allotment space, within our outdoor education area.

As we do every year, we entered a tree for the Burton Overy Christmas Tree Festival.

The above pictures are of the wedding of Nicky and Chris Winton. It took place at Pengersick Castle in Penzance, Cornwall, on Sunday 19 October.

Winter, for me, is a time to recharge after the long, carefree days of summer and the bustle of autumn. I love the cosy evenings with family and friends — hot chocolate in hand, card games on the table, a film flickering in the background. That gentle togetherness is part of what helps me restore my energy for the year ahead.

In early November, 12 of Kibworth Town Football Club’s U9 group travelled to Merseyside, to face a group from Liverpool’s Academy.

Harborough Theatre Company is putting on a special gala performance of their next production ‘Bleak Expectations’ by Mark Evans, for the benefit of Macmillan Cancer Support Market Harborough Group, on Monday 12 January, 7.30pm.

The newly formed Kibworth & District Heritage Society, held their latest meeting in the newly opened Kibworth Community Library. Just under 40 people attended a talk by retired solicitor John Tillotson called, ‘Kibworth’s National School: Educational and Legal Background and Kibworth C of E Old Controlled Voluntary School Trust.’ A very long title for a talk, however, it was an interesting and quite complex area. 

An update published by Harborough District Council, on 31 October 2025, confirms that the district’s five-year housing land supply has dropped slightly from 3.5 to 3.1 years. This comes as a direct result of changes in government policy, something that is beyond the council’s control.

The AGM of Illston-on-the-Hill WI took place in November.  The meeting was conducted efficiently and all business was dealt with in a timely manner.

Volunteers Wanted Now!

I recently read an article about the particles of plastic in the material used to make tea bags. It figuratively stopped me in my tracks! Plastic! Oh no! Would I have to start making my own tea bags from muslin! The thought of all that cutting out, sewing up, filling with tea leaves, and sewing again was very off putting. I had made lavender bags in the past and some were still inhabiting the corners of my chest of drawers! But tea bags!

The annual Pro Shop Christmas Golf Competition delivered a fantastic day of festive spirit, friendly rivalry, and impressive golf at the club last week. With a strong field of members, the event once again proved to be a great success.

Our November meeting began with Wendy Johnson from the Heart Trust charity giving us a talk and demonstration on how to use a defibrillator to save a life. She brought along five out of 15 different defibrillators, which can cost from £650 up to £25,000. Wendy told us that when nurses call out for one it’s “Bring me the defib” because the full word is too long! All defibs have a battery, but now one has been developed to run on solar power. The machine will indicate if the battery is running low.

“On that first Christmas morning, the angels were singing, the shepherds were celebrating, the wise men were still travelling and the innkeeper was making breakfast for his full house.  Meanwhile, Joseph was possibly feeling a little overwhelmed by the responsibility confronting him, and the Bible says Mary was ‘pondering’, ‘treasuring all these things in her heart’ (Luke 2:19) as she held and fed her new-born baby.
