We have gone very green!

Our focus over the last few weeks has been on the Midlands Area Contest on Sunday 8 March.

After a non-starter meeting in January due to snow, February brought Richard Warren to Illston-on-the-Hill WI to talk to us about ‘Walks and Talks in Leicester’.

In our February meeting, professional artist Ian Mitchell, otherwise known as Inky Mitch, entertained Kibworth Art Lovers and visitors with a presentation of his unique style of line and vibrant watercolour. Ian is known in the Knighton and Clarendon Park area of Leicester for his colourful ink drawings of local shops, streets and houses.

Well, I’m sure you won’t need me to tell you that the start to 2026 has seen a little bit of rain. This hasn’t stopped the Fleckney and Kibworth runners though. First out of the starting blocks was Ellie Holland. She raced in the Harewood House Trail Races, Canicross 10k in 1.16.

We have been enjoying our indoor carpet bowls competitions this winter. This year’s winners of the Hollingsworth Cup were Les Cowley and Sue Graves (pictured below), who beat Eileen Clayton and Helen Nourish by just one shot in a nail-biting final.

League Results

Kibworth Scout Group are thrilled to announce our plans for a brand-new, modern, purpose-built Scout building on our land by the railway.

New Kibworth resident Richard Hill used to run a history group in Warwick. He gave a fascinating talk about Zulu and the Battle of Rorke’s Drift this month.  Let’s hope it’s the first of many.

Tom Ingall will be talking about his involvement in ‘The Great Central Railway’ on Tuesday 17 February.

Snow was forecast on 8 January, our meeting night. With none falling by 6.30pm our intrepid president, Teresa, set out from Oadby. Other members, braving the cold, began to arrive, just 16 in all. We shelved the business part of the meeting and settled down for the talk.

At our first ‘Kibworth & District Heritage Society’ meeting of the year, chairman John Freeland shared some fascinating stories and photographs about his great-granduncle, Alonzo Freeland. Alonzo was one of three well-known Victorian photographers in the village, and the photos of Kibworth from the past were particularly captivating.

Time never stands still for long with MSTC. Fresh from our successful production of Rhyme and Treason, we are well into rehearsals for our next production, Holiday Snap, by Michael Pertwee and John Chapman. A traditional farce that the British do so well that will certainly provide our audiences with plenty of laughs.
