Illston-on-the-Hill WI had that excited ‘back to school’ feeling at their September meeting. Almost all members were able to be present. After the usual short business meeting, we were entertained by our speaker for the evening, Chris Knight. His presentation was titled ‘Auntie, the war is over’.
Leicester Cathedral will host one of our foremost local choirs this autumn. The Harborough Singers, who regularly appear in cathedrals across the UK and sang at York Minster in March, are delighted to be able to present a concert of reflective and uplifting music, in their local cathedral on All Saint’s Day, Saturday 1November.
Fleckney 1 were confident going into the final Elbow Tankard match to decide the fourth semi-final team. They were fully expecting to overwhelm their own second team, but were pulled up short when the latter went into a 4/0 lead. The first team dug deep with Bob Pateam buting 5 from 6, and Andy Haddon 4 from 6, to grab a 12/8 victory.
Three years after retiring I was stuck in a rut; I “needed to get out more”. So in 2011, after seeing an article in the Kibworth & District Chronicle, I went to Kibworth Bowling Club’s open day. This decision I have never regretted. I was made to feel very welcome and introduced to “mats, bias, jacks and woods”. After an hour’s bowling the coach bought me a beer at the club’s bar.
Kibworth Bowling Club was filled with the sound of country music and the shuffle of dancing feet this week as ITV Central News filmed a feature on the village’s thriving line dancing class.
Please see below a photograph of the new Noticeboard at Kibworth Allotments and also our Chair, Robin Ager, holding an owl box, that the Kibworth and District Chronicle have kindly contributed towards.
At our AGM on Tuesday 2September, we were delighted to acknowledge the very successful year that our group has had. From our successful Christmas show in 2024, ‘Holly Jolly Saves Christmas’, to our murder mystery supper night, ‘Murder in the Mailbox’, that was performed in local village halls. Both shows were great fun to put on and went down really well with our audiences. Thanks was given to everyone both back stage and on-stage for their time, effort and enthusiasm that made these shows the success they were.
Are you affected by Parkinson’s? Why not join our choir? The choir welcomes all people affected by Parkinson’s; their family, carers and friends. You can join at any time. No expertise is necessary – just come along and sing! The benefits of singing are well-documented. Singing releases happy endorphins, it helps with breathing and posture, it helps keep pathways open in the brain for speech. When singing there is no time to think of any worries or concerns, it demands all of our attention. Singing together can produce a beautiful sound. Join us and see for yourself! It's a happy, friendly group, with tea and biscuits too! We meet once a week, with some breaks in school holiday times. Contribution of £8 per session.
