I was shown a packet of coffee produced by a small family coffee producing business, declaring their four commitments to help their farmers. They buy directly from the farmers; they help their farmers to improve their coffee, some of it meeting Soil Association organic standards. The last two commitments are to improve farmers’ homes and provide health and educational facilities. So why my hesitation about it? And why are they using the system called Enveritas? Following our report on Rotary Young achievers on the front page of last month’s Chronicle, Aggie Wells, runner up in the National Young chef competition (part of the wider Rotary Young Citizen’s awards) came to our Rotary meeting at Kibworth Golf Club on Tuesday 29 April.

This year's Blaston Show is fast approaching. It takes place on Sunday 29 June just outside the village of Slawston, near Market Harborough. Attracting around 5,000 visitors every year, the show has been running since 1957 – and this year, weather permitting, visitors can enjoy a flypast from a Lancaster Bomber.

Our annual Charity Golf Day this year is Friday 22 August at Glen Gorse Golf Club, Oadby. Teams of 4, £220 per team. This will again include bacon roll, coffee on arrival, 18 holes of golf followed by a meal. Afterwards with team and individual prizes. We will also be having a raffle. So if you are able to donate a raffle prize please contact me on my email. I will be happy to collect. This year we are looking for local businesses to have an opportunity to become sponsors for the event.

Market Harborough based Home-Start South Leicestershire, were delighted to win the award for ‘Innovative Substantive Delivery’. Multiply commented that “By weaving budgeting, price comparisons, and portion calculations into meal preparation, the course has empowered parents to develop confidence with numbers in a practical and supportive way.” 

Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital will be holding a table top sale. It is on Saturday 10 May in Kibworth Village Hall, LE8 0LN, from 10am until 12:45pm.

Firstly, we would like to say a big “THANK YOU” to Andrew and Edd at The Kings Head. They and all their customers have raised an amazing £3,819.23 in their second year of trading. This just shows the generosity and kindness of this wonderful community. The money will go towards our new aim of working with a local establishment to provide a night of respite for LRI patients whilst they are receiving their cancer treatment.
