The Clutter Sale is back at The Railway, Kibworth LE8 0LN, between 9am – 4pm on Thursday 5 May, and Friday 6 May, and 10am – 1pm on Saturday 7 May.

Many thanks to Sam, staff and customers at The Railway Arms, for the Easter Bingo event. Fun and laughter accompanied Sam calling the numbers for the winning lines and “House!” was shouted out by excited winning participants. The regular customers in for a ‘quiet’ drink on a Friday night also did their part by donating towards the evenings fundraising. Together they raised a fantastic £300. Thank you.

Not only is the Queen celebrating her incredible reign of 70 years, but Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland is also proud to be sharing the royal celebrations with their own Platinum Anniversary. They have a fun packed year of exciting events and activities to match.

To date this winter has been mild, so no problems with ice. Ice was a big issue in commercial days, and special ice-breaking boats, drawn by teams of horses, would be deployed to force a channel through. (Two examples are on display behind the sideponds at the locks). Nowadays the many moored boats and climate change make thick ice a less frequent occurrence. The lengthy maintenance stoppage at Watford (Northants) lock flight is due to finish at the end of February, so hopefully we will start to see more boats coming this way.

Harborough Morsbags Group members have been busy making bags out of donated material. They give them out for free at local events and to organisations.

The Car Scheme, in operation since 1987, was initially run out of Pen Lloyd Library in Market Harborough. We are based in Market Harborough. Residents of 2/3 of Harborough District including Kibworth, Fleckney & surrounding villages fall into our catchment area. Leicestershire County Council currently funds us. There are three members of Transport office staff, Sandy, Ann & Jo. Our phone line is manned Monday – Friday 9am – 2.30pm and you can leave a message at any other time.

GEMS Charity celebrates our 10^th anniversary this year. To mark the occasion we have lots of exciting things planned throughout the year, supported by local businesses and the community.

As I write this, the sun is streaming through the window.  Do we dare hope that spring has sprung? The daffodils are out in the garden at our café and, hopefully, it’ll be warm enough soon for customers to make use of our outdoor area when they visit us.

My name is Samantha Shields, I am the landlady of The Railway Arms. Derek Ward from O Hairdressing Salon and I got together and launched an Easter Egg Appeal for the poorly children in the Leicester Royal Infirmary.

We would like to thank the Capell family for asking for donations to GEMS Charity instead of flowers in memory of Kelvin. We have received the final payment making the total amount £1687.17. This is incredible, and shows how well thought of he was.
