Many thanks to Sam, staff and customers at The Railway Arms, for the Easter Bingo event. Fun and laughter accompanied Sam calling the numbers for the winning lines and “House!” was shouted out by excited winning participants. The regular customers in for a ‘quiet’ drink on a Friday night also did their part by donating towards the evenings fundraising. Together they raised a fantastic £300. Thank you.

Ice was a big issue in commercial days, and special ice-breaking boats, drawn by teams of horses, would be deployed to force a channel through. The lengthy maintenance stoppage at Watford (Northants) lock flight is due to finish at the end of February, so hopefully we will start to see more boats coming this way.

As I write this, the sun is streaming through the window. Do we dare hope that spring has sprung? The daffodils are out in the garden at our café and, hopefully, it’ll be warm enough soon for customers to make use of our outdoor area when they visit us.
