The clock is ticking ahead of this year’s Blaston Show, incorporating the Blaston Hound Show. Established in 1957 and attracting around 5,000 visitors every year, this year’s show takes place on Sunday 30 June, just outside the village of Slawston, near Market Harborough.

Plans are well underway, promising another fabulous family day out. Exhibitors and spectators come from across the region, with something to appeal to all ages, from livestock, equestrian classes tailored to local riders, and a fun dog show, to classic cars, high-tech farming technology and traction engines…not forgetting plenty of children’s entertainment.

Back by popular demand will be the giant Aldabra tortoises, who first appeared at Blaston Show in 2018. These prehistoric looking creatures can live to 250 years of age and, if circumstances dictate, can go up to 12 months without eating and 3-4 months without drinking.

Barrel Racing, presented by Grantham-based 4 Strides Equestrian, is an event in which horses and their riders attempt to complete a cloverleaf pattern around three barrels placed in a triangle in the fastest time. It makes its Blaston Show debut and will take place in the main arena.

Also in the main arena will be Jez Avery’s thrilling Stunt Show, ‘Jez in control of four wheels’, two wheels, one wheel and even no wheels. The show includes wheelies, stoppies, drifting, doughnuts and much more.

Blaston Show also hosts the Blaston Hound Show, which attracts entries from as far afield as Northumberland and Dorset, as well as local pack The Fernie, in whose country the show is held. With excellent shopping opportunities and money being raised for GEMS Charity and Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People, what’s not to love!

Tickets can be bought online at www.blastonshow.co.uk or on the gate, which opens at 8am on the day. Entrance to the Show costs from £5 for 13-16 year olds (12 and under are free) to £14 for over 16s. Blaston Membership is also available at £30 for two adults and two children.
