GEMS Charity, June 2022

GEMS Charity

GEMS Charity would like to thank Paul Ward of Kibworth Carpets. He and his family gave a kind donation of £719.01 in memory of Claire Ward. The online donations for which have yet to be received. This is a great amount, which goes to show how much loved Claire was.

Paul has asked for a plaque in memory of Claire to be placed on one of the chairs on the balcony we have refurbished, which of course we will organise. He told GEMS “After spending time in the LRI chemotherapy suite in the Osborne Building, Claire saw the difference GEMS had made to the environment and she thought a lot of the charity and the work they do.”

The donation will also go towards our current project of refurbishing the treatment area and converting a balcony into an inside space to extend the current treatment area. This will allow more patients to receive their treatment and make them more comfortable. We pass on our sincere condolences to Paul and his family, and thank them once again for thinking of GEMS.

Platinum Jubilee

GEMS would like to thank Jeff Pearce, Derek Ward, Sam Sheilds and the numerous volunteers who helped on the 3-day Platinum Jubilee event that was held at the Railway. The weather started off well and just about held out for the three days. We had lots of different things going on with various stalls for people to purchase goods from. On our GEMS stall alone, we took just over £800, which is fantastic.

We also had a vintage Kirby and West milk float from Classic Milk Floats for people to look around and reminisce about times gone by.

Jack Harling from Smeeton Westerby had been growing his hair and beard since January so it could all be shaved off in the pub with all donations going to GEMS.

For all of us that are involved day-to-day with GEMS it was really humbling to see so many people willing to give up their holiday time to help us raise much needed funds. We will let you know the total amount raised in the next edition of the Chronicle.
