Autumn and Half Marathon season

Fleckney & Kibworth Running Club

After the Autumn Marathon and Half Marathon season we’ve had a much quieter month for races and events. It’s now time for the mud lovers to get involved with the Derby Runner Cross Country League underway.

The first race was held at Holly Hayes Wood, near Whitwick, and hosted by Hermitage Harriers. Lorna Muskett, Jim Hawley and Mike Higgins represented F&K, enjoying a 5-mile course over woodland trails and a brook crossing to wash off some of the mud. Lorna managed to grab 15th spot in the Ladies race, and Mike was in the top 60 for the men. Jim will be jostling for a position nearer the front of the pack in the next event after suffering the congestion caused by the popularity of this first event of the season!

Impressive finish for Sam

Elsewhere, Sam Pole was representing Dark Peak Fell Runners at the Cardington Cracker Hill Race. This offers a challenging 9-mile route with 2,600 feet of ascent, set in the Shropshire Hills with several steep climbs, and a much needed downhill last mile. Sam finished in an impressive 6th place from over 180 runners, in a time of 1:25:42

Several club members are already looking forward to next year and have signed up for the Charnwood Hills and Ashby 20 races

Join us for Couch to 5k

If you fancy a shorter distance, we will be running a Couch to 5k course, held over 9 weeks. We will be starting on Thursday 13 January. We meet in the Kibworth Methodist Church Hall at 6.30pm.

The course is suitable for beginners or anyone looking to get back into running. This is all supervised by experienced Run Leaders. Contact Andy Kemp on 07525 465643 or andykemp50@sky.com for more details.
