The Kibworth School Update

Kibworth Mead Academy logo

We are so excited to welcome back all our students on 8 March! By the time you read this we will have had (pandemic permitting!) a fantastic, safe, happy and productive couple of first weeks in school.

Since the beginning of the lockdowns last year, we have invested heavily in Covid safety measures around school. This includes; signage, screening, regular fogging and hand sanitiser everywhere! To date we’re very pleased to say that we have had very few positive cases. We have a dedicated test centre on site, and specially recruited and trained staff who run the lateral flow testing for us. In line with government guidelines, all our staff are tested twice a week. After the initial in-school testing period this month, students will complete tests at home twice a week.

Whilst nothing replaces face to face teaching in school, we’re really proud of the remote learning package that our staff have delivered during Lockdown 3, of how committed our students have been to continuing their learning, and of how supportive their parents and carers have been during tough times. Every student has had access to a laptop or equivalent device. They’ve followed a full timetable of live lessons, including tutor time and assemblies each week. Some weeks online attendance has been as high as 98% which is phenomenal – thank you so much, everyone.

On 1 April we will formally join The Mead Educational Trust (TMET)

This term school enters the next phase in its exciting future. As many of you will be aware, on 1 April we will formally join The Mead Educational Trust (TMET), a Leicester-based multi-academy trust. As a member of TMET, we’ll benefit greatly from the sharing of expertise, best practice and resources across all aspects of school’s operations. The current pandemic, despite being extremely effectively managed in school and absolutely not a driver in this process, has inevitably placed increased pressure on already stretched financial, site and staff resources and has further highlighted the benefits of being part of a larger peer support network.

Joining TMET also means that our school name will change so it’s consistent with the other schools in the trust. From 1 April we will be Kibworth Mead Academy – ‘mead’ means ‘meadows’ so it’s very appropriate. And we’ve updated our logo to reflect this – we hope you like it.

Huge thanks to Paul Lawrence (@paullawrence_artwork), one of our talented parents, who has kindly undertaken the logo re-design for us.  We wanted to retain the phoenix logo to reflect the school’s history, but update it for the next stage of the school’s journey.

Our uniform will stay the same, we’ll just phase in the new logo as families buy new uniform. Our signage and other materials will be updated during the summer term.  If you have any queries or would like to know more, please email joiningTMET@thekibworthschool.org

Thank you as ever to our wonderful local community for all your support during this tough year. We look forward to the time we can welcome you back into school safely again.
