Kibworth and Fleckney Rotary Club

Kibworth & Fleckney Rotary Club

On Friday September fourth, 21 golf teams went head to head at Kibworth & Fleckney Rotary Club’s annual charity golf day. It was a shotgun start, so all the teams scattered before they all started from the 18 tees at the same time, 1pm. We had fine weather and the 84 golfers then met at the end for a buffet meal and prize giving.

Congratulations to the winning team players who were Chris Rowland, Mike Davey Martin Summers and Barry Smith.

The money raised, in the region of £2500, went to the Matt Hampson Foundation. The foundation provides advice, support, relief and treatment for anyone aged over 16 suffering serious injury or disability, which has primarily arisen from participation in or training for any sport or sporting activity. Matt Hampson OBE was such a person in 2005, who was severely injured in a rugby training accident. He is now a huge inspiration to others. Tim Stimpson, former international rugby player, said a few words about the Trust.

The occasion was tinged with sadness as we remembered Richard Ward. Richard was a local photographer who for many years gave up his time to record the golf day. Richard tragically died only weeks after last year’s event. However, Richard was an upbeat character and would have definitely approved of this year’s charity as his son had a life-changing accident too at just 17. The Rotary Club benefited from money raised in memory of Richard last year and we decided to help a little girl locally who had mobility issues.

So, the golf day was a great success and highlighted in a number of ways the positive effect that Rotary has in our community. Many thanks to Kibworth Golf club and all those involved in the organisation.
