Methodist Matters – September 2026

Methodist church

Just before the last edition of the Chronicle went to press in June a good friend of this church, and Kibworth itself, Roger Garratt, died; and tributes to him appeared in that issue. His funeral subsequently took place in our premises and was attended by around 700 people inside the Chapel, the Schoolroom and was also broadcast outside in the car park. The service, which commenced with the theme tune from ‘The Magic Roundabout’, has already been viewed on YouTube over 1,300 times, and is still available (Roger Garratt Funeral) for those who were unable to attend.

During the summer months

We have installed new planters by the road.

Full fibre broadband has been installed throughout the building for use by all users.

Lucy Lewin has taken over ownership of the Kibworth Methodist Pre-School Group.

With effect from September 2027, our minister, Rev Andy Murphy, has been appointed Superintendent of the East Mercia Methodist Circuit. He will continue as minister of this church, but will also have overall responsibility for the other 15 Methodist churches in the area.

Our Harvest Festival will be held on 27 September at 10.30 am, led by Andy Murphy. All non-perishable goods received will be donated to ‘The Well’ Foodbank, and all cash will be matched by the church (up to £250) and given to the relief charity ‘All We Can’.

Songs of Praise will be held next month on Sunday 11 October at our usual service time of 10.30 am. The topic will be ‘And God said to Me’.

Some of you will recall Mel Wheeler who was our Growth and Nurture Support Worker. Mel has been training to enter the ministry and has just been appointed as a Deacon in London at King’s Cross.

Claire Pickering, our Church and Community Chaplain, will be leading the service on Sunday 18 October. If you wish to meet her at any time, she can usually be found in ‘The Well’ at the ‘Chatty Café’ table most Thursday mornings.

“Will Heaven be like coming home to a surprise party after a bad day?”
