Traffic issues in Kibworth
Am I alone in wondering what the answer is to the traffic problem in Kibworth? We lived in Kibworth for 13 wonderful years and left 27 years ago to live in Braybrooke. We moved back nine months ago and quickly became aware of all types of traffic ignoring the 30 limit up and down Albert Street/Marsh Drive and the A6. I walk my dog at about 7.30 am every morning and decided to stand by the electric sign for the next 20 vehicles recently and 12 of them triggered the slow down sign, most around 35 mph but one at 47 mph. It is clear that most vehicles are ignoring the limit without fear.
When we lived here before the hot topic was a North South bypass which I understand was quickly binned due to the problem of cost and the railway line, but it appears that nothing has been done to solve the problem of traffic or slow the traffic down. In Braybrooke we joined the speed watch scheme, and working with the local police who brought mobile cameras two or three times a year and our own use of the camera twice a year under the scheme, made a big difference at times in spite of not being able to get it converted into a 20 mph zone. I have never seen a police presence in Kibworth regarding traffic speed since we moved back, but understand that I may have missed them.
Can I ask the following questions?
1. Has there been any attempt to join speed watch?
2. Has there been any attempt to convert Harcourt into a 20 mph zone?
3. Has there been any attempt to find out the views of the residents of Harcourt think about the traffic issue?
4. When was the last time a police mobile unit visited the area?
I ask the questions in order to try and understand what has happened during our 27 years away not as a criticism of anyone or the council, purely as an information gathering exercise.
