Local Growers Network

Swap surplus Share skills Grow together

Local Growers Network (LGN) is a free, growing community network for people interested in food growing and local food across Leicestershire, Rutland and North Northamptonshire.
Although still at an early stage, nearly 200 people have already joined us. These include home growers, allotment holders, beginners, smallholders, landowners and community projects. And people simply interested in finding more locally produced food.
The idea is quite simple. There is already a huge amount of growing knowledge, produce, land, skills and enthusiasm scattered across our towns and villages. But people often don’t know who else is nearby.
LGN is being developed to make those local connections easier.
This might mean:
- Finding someone nearby with surplus courgettes, apples or seedlings to swap or give away.
- Discovering a more experienced grower willing to share advice.
- Finding locally grown food to buy.
- Connecting with someone looking for growing space with a landowner.
- Or simply meeting other people locally who share an interest in producing food.
One of the biggest priorities now is increasing the number of members within individual villages and towns. The network becomes much more useful when there are enough people within a few miles of one another for those practical connections to happen regularly.
An opt-in map is also being developed so that members will eventually be able to find participating growers, community projects, local food producers and other useful resources nearby, while allowing individuals to control what information they choose to share.
You certainly don’t need to be an expert grower to join. Beginners are very welcome, as are people who don’t currently grow at all but would like to buy, swap or access more locally produced food.
LGN is not intended to organise everything centrally. The aim is simply to make it easier for local people to find one another and then create the connections that make sense for them.
Membership is free and takes only a couple of minutes.
