Foxton Society – with a cautionary tale.
I’m sorry to begin with some disappointing news. Many of you will remember our annual Comedy Night, which the village has enjoyed for the past five years. You may also have heard that the company behind the Leicester Comedy Festival has unfortunately gone into liquidation. Sadly, we are one of the many groups affected, and we have lost money as a result. We have not received payment for the tickets sold through the website, and as the event was a full house, this amounts to over £1,500.
Thankfully, we have enough money in reserve to keep going, but this does mean that your support is more important to us than ever. We hope you’ll continue to come along, support our events and help us keep these much-loved community activities going. Every ticket bought, raffle entered and bit of support really does make a difference. Thank you, as always, for your continued support and for helping us keep our village events alive.
Upcoming events
Here’s what we have coming up for you!
Village Lunches
Our very popular Village Lunches will recommence on Monday 28 September. The lunch consists of homemade soup and bread, followed by tea, coffee and biscuits. It takes place in the village hall, usually on the last Monday of the month from 12.30pm – 2.30pm. The lunch is free, but donations are welcome to cover our costs. There’s no need to book. Just come to the Village Hall between 12.30pm and 1pm and join us for good food and conversation.
The next few dates are: Monday 26 October and Monday 23 November (note that this is not the last Monday of the month) and New Year’s Day 1 January 2027.
We have more dates for your diaries.
Fun Wine Tasting Event: Friday 30 October
Join us for a relaxed and sociable evening of wine tasting, good food and a little bit of friendly competition. Enjoy a selection of wines, have a go at our light-hearted quiz, and tuck into a delicious supper of cheeses, charcuterie and accompaniments.
No wine expertise required — just come along, have a taste and enjoy a fun evening with friends and neighbours. Tickets £20 from Sarah Levy on Tel:07969146431 or sarah.levy@doctors.org.uk
Safari Supper: Saturday 28 November
Following on from last year, we hope to get even more people involved in this year’s village safari supper. Our Safari Supper is a fun and sociable evening where participants enjoy each course of a meal at a different home in the village. You might have a starter with one group of neighbours, move on to another house for the main course, and finish somewhere else for dessert. It’s a great way to meet people, catch up with neighbours and enjoy a relaxed evening of good food and company. The best bit? You don’t need to host the whole meal — just one course, while the ‘safari’ takes care of the rest!
