Rotary – Presidential Handover
On 30 June Noel Tyler handed over the reins of his Presidency to Paul Kirby. Paul has been a member since the club was chartered in 1987. Rotary Foundation is the charitable arm of Rotary. The foundation receives donations and uses them to fund projects and provide grants.
Over the years the Rotary Club, along with many other initiatives, has applied for a number of local & international Rotary grants. Ranging from equipment for Vista, furniture for Fleckney library, refrigeration equipment for Kibworth’s Well. More recently sucessfully applying for a garden area for Church Langton Primary School. Paul has been President before but also has been very much involved with grant applications, showing how, in this way, Rotary can make a real difference in the community. He also looks forward to our Golf Day on September 4th and our annual fireworks on Friday 6th November.
Paul Harris Award
Paul Harris founded Rotary in 1905 in Chicago. After his death, in 1957 as a memorial to the founder of this worldwide movement, the Paul Harris fellow award was presented to Rotarians who had made the greatest contribution to their clubs, financially and by their actions. Today the award is presented for just outstanding service.
On the evening of 4 August at Kibworth Golf Club, two members of the club were surprised by having been chosen for one of Rotary’s highest forms of recognition, for their outstanding contribution to our club. Roger Calvert and Robert Easthope were presented with the award by Paul Kirby. Roger Calvert is a founder member, past president, and has supported the club in many areas. He has particularly highlighted the international character of Rotary, visiting a number of clubs in the Southern hemisphere, and has recently also been our webmaster.
Robert Easthope is a relative newcomer to Rotary but has also had a hugely positive impact. He’s been President twice, in quick succession, and has taken over the onerous task of organising our annual fireworks display. The club members were united in their congratulations to two worthy awardees.
