Gems Charity Update April 2026

We hope you enjoyed your Easter. We’re updating you on our fundraising. Edd and Andrew have been supporting GEMS Charity at The Kings Head for three years, organising events and raising £4,488.69. Also Sam at The Railway Arms held a Virtual Race Day linked to the Grand National, raising £228 for GEMS Charity. A massive heartfelt thank you to Sam, Edd, Andrew and their staff and all their customers for their continued support.
The funds are being used to provide respite for patients and supporters at Winstanley House in Braunston. This has been very successful, with positive feedback from those who have stayed.
We’re also replacing some outside furniture on the balconies at the LRI chemotherapy suite to make it more comfortable for patients and supporters waiting for treatment.
We’ve planned our fundraising events for the year and would love to see you there.
Call the Kings Head for dates of their quiz and bingo nights. These events are fun and get full quickly, so book by calling 0116 279 2676 or emailing thekingsheadsmeeton@outlook.com
Our Clutter Sale is at The Railway Arms on Friday 15 May (9am-4pm) and Saturday 16 May (10am-2pm). Please drop off your clutter from Thursday 14 May at 2:30pm. No large furniture, but you’ll find great bargains. Thanks to Sam for allowing us to hold the event there.
The lovely people of Smeeton Westerby opened their gardens for GEMS Open Gardens last year, so we’re making it a bi-annual event. We look forward to seeing you next year. However, we couldn’t miss this opportunity and are organising an exciting new event at The Kings Head in June. More details will follow.
Our annual GEMS Golf Day is on Friday 7 August, at Market Harborough Golf Club. It’s £55 per player, teams of four. If you know any keen golfers, or if you’d like to join a team, let us know.
This year, local businesses can sponsor part of the event as usual, or donate towards the cost. For more information and to book, email lyn.gemscharity@gmail.com or call Fred 07763 116 049.
Finally, our annual Indian Charity meal at the Cuisine of India, Kelmarsh Avenue, Wigston, will be in the autumn. We’ll let you know the date closer to the time.
GEMS Charity, a local Leicestershire charity based in Kibworth, aims to make patients and their supporters visiting the Chemotherapy suite at Leicester Royal Infirmary more comfortable during cancer treatment. Founded in 2012 after supporting four close friends through their cancer treatment, the charity is named after them: Gilly, Elizabeth, Meg, and Sarah. Run solely by volunteers, GEMS ensures that donations directly support its aim. The community’s support has been invaluable, and the charity hopes to continue receiving it. Visit www.gemscharity.com for more information and to see where donations have been used. Thank you for your support; without you, we couldn’t do what we do.
