Connecting Over Coffee: A Warm Welcome for Our Over-60s Community

The Well

On the third Tuesday of every month, our café becomes a lively hub of conversation, laughter and connection as we host a friendly social group for people aged 60 and over. There’s no need to book – just turn up, grab a drink, and chat away. Hosted by volunteers from Voluntary Action South Leicestershire, the group is designed to bring people together and help reduce social isolation across Kibworth and the surrounding villages.

Increasing social isolation

Social isolation among older people is more common than many realise. In England, it’s estimated that around one million older people often feel lonely. Hundreds of thousands go a week or more without speaking to a friend, neighbour, or family member. This lack of connection can have a serious impact on mental health. It increases the risk of depression, anxiety, and a decline in overall wellbeing.

That’s why simple opportunities to come together matter so much. A friendly face, a shared story, or even a brief chat over coffee can make a real difference. Our monthly group offers exactly that. It’s a relaxed, informal space where everyone is welcome and no one needs to feel alone.

A safe and welcoming space

Our café is always a safe and welcoming place for people of all ages. Whether you prefer a quiet coffee with a book or a catch-up with friends over lunch, you’ll find a warm atmosphere waiting for you. Our dedicated volunteers in both the shop and café take pride in offering a genuine welcome and are always happy to stop for a chat.

If you or someone you know could benefit from a bit of company, why not come along on the third Tuesday of the month? You’ll be greeted with a smile – and a seat at the table.  The next get together will be on Tuesday 19 May between 2:30 and 3:30pm.
