On Sunday, 1 June 11-5pm a range of gardens in our village will be open to visitors. Refreshments will be available and (weather permitting) a display of classic cars! Entry is £5 (children under 16 free) Proceeds from the day will support St Andrew’s church and village projects. Please spread the word. Boat movements were down all last year. The winter was pretty quiet too. The seemingly unending storms wreaked havoc across the waterways system, bringing many trees down to block the navigation. There seems to have been a small spurt of activity for the February half term. Nobody is sure how the season will pan out. Some hire firms report bookings are slow. Private boats, whose numbers are increasing, tend not to travel far, and the trends are not very encouraging. Perhaps if we are blessed with some good weather, and not so many floods, things will pick up.

A reader has reminded us that the staff at Boboli’s were very professional but are now jobless since the restaurant closed. Regular customers were effusive about the atmosphere, the friendly staff, and how they made sure everyone had a great time. We know that it is a tough time for them, especially since the hospitality industry is still shrinking.
