Following our report on Rotary Young achievers on the front page of last month’s Chronicle, Aggie Wells, runner up in the National Young chef competition (part of the wider Rotary Young Citizen’s awards) came to our Rotary meeting at Kibworth Golf Club on Tuesday 29 April.

I was shown a packet of coffee produced by a small family coffee producing business, declaring their four commitments to help their farmers. They buy directly from the farmers; they help their farmers to improve their coffee, some of it meeting Soil Association organic standards. The last two commitments are to improve farmers’ homes and provide health and educational facilities. So why my hesitation about it? And why are they using the system called Enveritas? Well, what a fabulous night we had at our Village Variety Show. It was full of talent, laughter and fun. After supper had been served, the show opened with Phil Lee singing ‘Bring Him Home’ from Les Misérables for which he received a standing ovation. What a great start! Next came sketches, funny poems, monologues and more wonderful singing, finishing with Phil again, this time singing ‘Nessun Dorma' which was amazing. 

New signage is now in place enhancing the refurbished entrance and the transition to being known as the Kibworth Community Hub.

The relaunch of the Kibworth History Society will take place on Wednesday 21 May at 7pm in Kibworth Library. If you are interested in your surroundings and would like to know more please do come along. You will be very welcome.

Severn Trent Water visited our Year 4 pupils to share their expertise on the fascinating journey of water. The session was both educational and engaging, leaving our students with a deeper understanding of the water cycle and the vital role Severn Trent plays in managing our water resources.

This year's Blaston Show is fast approaching. It takes place on Sunday 29 June just outside the village of Slawston, near Market Harborough. Attracting around 5,000 visitors every year, the show has been running since 1957 – and this year, weather permitting, visitors can enjoy a flypast from a Lancaster Bomber.

Paul Maslowski knew that he had found what he was looking for when, in1996, he saw a Chinese artist demonstrating Chinese painting and Calligraphy at the Leicester Chinese Community Centre. Following this, he began to study Chinese Brush Painting under instruction from the very best of practitioners in Leicester. Paul was enthused further about Chinese poetry and traditional culture. After years of serious study in Taiwan and China, he continues to study Calligraphy and Painting with Taiwanese, Chinese and European artists. His work has won him national and international recognition.
