Gaulby Ringers raise funds for church project

A sponsored quarter peal rang out on 1st December at St Peter's, Gaulby. The team of local ringers raised over £750 to boost the funds of the Gaulby project. The project aims to provide an improved community space within the church as it is the only public building in the village.

Kibworth Art Lovers’ Society

Roger and Danièle Bradley described their lives with photography at the November meeting. They have practised photography for many years, and their work has been influenced by early pioneers such as Sir John Herschel (1842) and Anna Atkins (1843). Roger’s family moved to Canada in his early childhood, where he was given his first camera as a reward for finishing his paper round; on his return to England he taught photography. Recurring themes in his work are transport such as shipping and railways. Danièle’s first camera came from her father, and she has featured landscapes and her family many times.

‘Tis the Season for Traditions

Community spirit has very much been on display all over our villages this festive season. Residents of Kibworth’s Longbreach Road, Kibworth Meadows and beyond, came together on Thursday 13 December for the first lighting of a newly planted Christmas tree. (Did I mention mulled wine and carols?) The tree was very kindly planted by David Wilson Homes on what has become known as ‘the green’ since residents organised a gathering there in May to celebrate the Royal Wedding, and sparked a tradition…

Lest We Forget: The Kibworth School Remembers

On Friday 9 November all 850 students, staff, governors and guests gathered in the sports hall for an incredibly moving remembrance assembly. Co-ordinated by Mr Smith of the English Department, the assembly was led by our Head Boy, Nathan Booker, and Head Girl, Lydia Redman, with readings from other staff and students. Music from the school orchestra with playing of the last post by two students was led by guest Paul Hings (whom you may have seen later that weekend playing The Last Post on Match of the Day).

Kibworth History Society - End of an Era

From its origin as a small family history society in 1989 the Kibworth History Society grew into a thriving group which worked hard over nearly 30 years to promote, record and disseminate local history relating to Kibworth and Smeeton Westerby and history in general.
