As part of our ongoing series introducing Kibworth’s On-Call crew, we spotlight another team member, Firefighter Cameron Cavan. Read Cam’s insights on his experience and what inspired him to join the crew.

By the time the Kibworth and District Chronicle is published the band will have competed in the main contest of the year which this year has returned to Bedworth. 

John Tillotson, a retired Solicitor, has retired as Clerk to Illston Parish Estate (otherwise known as lllston Town Land Charity) with effect from 31 December after holding the position for an astonishing 56 years. John was appointed in 1968, the year of his marriage, by trustees chaired by the late Lord Hazlerigg when he was a Partner at Wartnaby Solicitors of Market Harborough. During his retirement he has worked from home.

This month, we’re meeting Richie, an experienced member of the Kibworth crew. After four years as an on-call firefighter and another two in a fulltime role, Rich is now a competent firefighter, qualified driver, and also capable of ‘acting up’ at incidents. This means that he can take charge at an incident if no other officers are available. With a diverse skill set and a positive attitude, Rich is a key member of the Kibworth crew. Read on to discover what inspired Rich to become an on-call firefighter and hear his advice for anyone interested in joining the on-call team.

The VASL Car Scheme has been operating since 1987 in Market Harborough and covers two-thirds of Harborough District. The scheme is for anyone who is elderly, disabled, rurally isolated, has no transport of their own or has difficulty accessing public transport. Due to a shortage of drivers, we are prioritising health and hospital appointments.

Apologies to the Skinner Family of Mowsley for the missing “t” which thus renamed their much loved relative.

Back in September we published a letter from Margaret Budd (nee Hitchcock) who with her mother and aunt, was evacuated to Kibworth in the Second World War. They stayed with Mrs Partidge at The Warren.

As we write this article the band are busy rehearsing for the Leicestershire Brass Band Association contest on Sunday 24 November. Before that, of course, the Band will be leading the Kibworth village parade and the Service of Remembrance,

A great stalwart of Mowsley Parish for over sixty years as church warden, organist, village hall committee member, parish clerk, joint organiser of the Mowsley Gardening club and so much more besides, has died suddenly. Her input into Mowsley Community life was immeasurable.

The Reverend Charles Hanmer Strudwick was a larger than life character with a much travelled past. This prominent member of the community was born in Stroud, Gloucestershire in 1866 to John Cottrell Strudwick and Catherine Hester Knight. He was ordained at Southwell Minster, Nottinghamshire in 1893. He Became a priest in 1895 and later a curate at Blyth, Nottinghamshire and at Ilkeston, Derbyshire. His calling then took him to France Lynch in Gloucestershire followed by terms of office in three parishes:

Well-known local resident Celia Pemberton turned 100 on 5th October.
