On Thursday 8 May 2025, the 80^th anniversary of Victory in Europe, Britain and beyond celebrated.

opens on Saturday 25 May from 10 am to 4:30 pm. The gardens include a walled flower garden, a walled kitchen garden, a fernery, a lower garden, a wildlife pond, a spring garden, lawns, woodland paths, and a meadow with a wildflower area, a ha-ha, and a hornbeam avenue.

We’re in a bit of a pickle and could really use your help! We’re looking for some extra volunteers to deliver the Chronicle when our usual delivery person is on holiday, sick, or out of the office. New signage is now in place enhancing the refurbished entrance and the transition to being known as the Kibworth Community Hub.

Well, what a fabulous night we had at our Village Variety Show. It was full of talent, laughter and fun. After supper had been served, the show opened with Phil Lee singing ‘Bring Him Home’ from Les Misérables for which he received a standing ovation. What a great start! Next came sketches, funny poems, monologues and more wonderful singing, finishing with Phil again, this time singing ‘Nessun Dorma' which was amazing. 

Kibworth & District Chronicle - we need a bit of help please!

Crime books are the most popular genre borrowed from the library; they fly off the shelves. So, you will be delighted to know that June is National Crime Reading Month and we have a special series of events on!

Flies and fungi haven’t often featured in these “notes”. This month two interesting flies to look out for and news of an extremely rare fungus.

We held our 20th Bluebell Open Day at The Old Rectory, Gumley, on Sunday 27 April. And for once had absolutely perfect conditions for it. After last year’s drizzle and notwithstanding the fortitude of the 300-odd brave patrons who came then, this year felt like a Chelsea garden moment. The recent cold nights holding the flowers back so that they peaked just at the right time.

The facelift given to Smeeton House over the last few month is impressive.

‘Greens’ are having an informal drop-in session at The King’s Head on Wednesday 30 April between 6pm and 7pm? It’s a chance for folks to come and meet us and tell / ask us things about our community that are important to them.

Inspired by Winter Watch and Countryfile, many people added ‘Video a Starling Murmuration’ to their bucket list. Recently, the early evening spectacular in the centre of Kibworth has given much pleasure. However, spare a thought for those in the immediate area. They have not only ‘got the t-shirt’ but also the patio, car and garden covered in starling poo. Not to mention the noise!
