Cinema in the Langtons presents 

After Christmas, I’d like to reflect on recent events in our village. We held a successful Christmas Fayre with lively chatter and laughter. The following Wednesday, Helen Benton, our village Pilates teacher, organised a well-attended ‘LOROS’ Coffee morning, raising another £500 for a deserving charity. This added to the £200 raised from CoCo mornings and £300 from the Christmas Fayre.

Our December meeting was our Christmas party, held at Kibworth Community Hub. To the Hub’s lovely decorations in the hall, we added beautiful table decorations made by a group of our members. Together with colourful tablecloths and napkins to create a warm Christmassy atmosphere.

Yet again in December 2025 the Kibworth Band produced a Christmas Concert to delight, amuse and thoroughly entertain. Not only was the music excellent but their grasp of logistics in moving upwards of 50 musicians and instruments (some very large indeed!) on and off the Hub stage several times was amazing.

Illston Abey Cricket Club will begin their junior cricket coaching sessions (for both boys and girls between ages 6 and 15 years) this January at Oadby Indoor Sports Hall situated at Oadby Beauchamp College. Many thanks to everyone who supported our ‘Christmas Sparkle’ concert last month. St Andrew’s Church was certainly sparkling— a beautiful, candle lit atmosphere for our audience. As part of our Christmas celebrations the choir made a donation to the Harborough Musical Memory Box. This organisation runs monthly sessions in Market Harborough for people with dementia and memory loss and their carers. It relies on donations and thanks to the generosity of our ‘Christmas Sparkle’ audience we were able to add a further £80 to our donations!

Our June meeting took a different format when we had a daytime outing to Foxton Locks. I suspect many people who live locally made visits to Foxton Locks several years ago and don’t realise how many changes have been made to the museum and how the newer pathways make it possible to appreciate the layout of the inclined plane/boat lift. We were fortunate to have a guided walk and talk from Paul, a trustee of the Foxton Inclined Plane Trust.

On Saturday 22nd November we rocked the night away singing numbers including Sweet Child of Mine, Don't fear the Reaper, Start Me Up/Living on a Prayer, and We Will Rock You. That got the audience going! We also sang a beautiful rendition of Nothing Else Matters by Metallica – check out our socials to look at lots of video clips and photos of a wonderful concert. And keep an eye out too for the total of funds raised for our chosen charity, Rainbows Hospice.

It is that time of year where it is fitting to thank all the people who have helped to make this publication a success over the last year.

Fleckney & Kibworth Running Club are offering a FREE 9-week couch to 5k running course, starting on Thursday 15 January, and every Thursday thereafter, at 6.30pm.

The original Christmas Tree Festival of Leicestershire, and now 23 years young, again attracted crowds of visitors through its doors to witness the many and varied decorated trees.

On 29 November, MSTC performed its Christmas Production, Rhyme and Treason for the final time.

After a fantastic spring and summer term, spending nearly every week meeting outdoors on our land, our Squirrel Scouts have led our group in an exciting project to create an allotment space, within our outdoor education area.
