Letter to the Editor – Oct ’26

Dear Editor,

Traffic issues and a possible solution

I read the latest letter in the September Chronicle with sadness. We moved to Kibworth 17 years ago so that we were near my parents. Also, the children could walk to school, both Primary and Secondary. It was a nice village with friendly people and good links to Leicester and Harborough. All those people are still here but there is a big influx of people from London and more expensive places generally who swan around in huge 4x4s and expect locals to get out of their way.

The traffic IS HORRENDOUS. We are looking to move to somewhere quieter, now that we don’t need to be near schools. You can’t drive through the village without aggressive drivers driving at you, over the wrong side of the road, and not giving way. I would rather live in Leicester in houses built in the 50s,60s or 70s where there are decent sized gardens and not an A road a few yards from most houses.

Driving out of the village

If you work, driving out of the village in the morning is a nightmare. I go down New Road then Fleckney Road. I give way at the Hardware shop and wait until it is clear even though it is my right of way.

Cars at the other end of the road usually wait until a stream of cars has passed before taking their turn to get down the road.

Many times people do not wait. I have seen people get out their cars and have a stand up row. There is also usually a massive queue for people trying to get on the A6 from Wistow Road. This queue goes all the way back to the other mini roundabout on Wistow Road.

It has been said many times, a roundabout at the junction of New Road and the A6 would slow everything down. It would give a break in the flow for people at the other end of the village.

“Councillors” or whatever they are, need to actually do their jobs. Bee orchids and cleaning benches doesn’t make any difference to most people. If you are going to let developers build houses on the old railway station, rather than get the line reopened so that we don’t need to drive all the time, then sort it out.

If they don’t we should look at the example of people in Thorney, a village in Norfolk. There, pressure from villagers got a bypass built after years of campaigning. But you have to DO SOMETHING.

We should all go and sit on the A6 and block it off completely.

Anyone want to organise????
