Fun, Fundraising and Fighting On: Stop The New Town Ramps Up Its Campaign

Local residents attended a presentation in Kibworth Community Hub on 15 August given by Dr Henri Winand, Chair of Stop The New Town (STNT), at which he highlighted the inadequacies of the Local Plan, the many issues related to infrastructure, delivery and planning across the whole district and the implications for Kibworth in particular.
Over the summer, presentations such as this have been organised across the area. To date, STNT has addressed residents in Great Glen, Stoughton, Newton Harcourt, Burton Overy and Kibworth, with more planned in Thurnby, Houghton-on-the-Hill and elsewhere.
Raising awareness
To raise awareness of the issues and the considerable threat to local green spaces, with a potential 9,000+ proposed houses in a swathe of development across East and South Leicestershire, STNT has had a presence at local fêtes and at the County Show. There has been fun with ‘Splat the Rat’ and ‘Guess the number of cars gridlocked in the jar’, and overwhelmingly at these events the public expresses a desire to limit building on green fields and demands infrastructure before more housing.
Funding expert support
STNT has launched a major fundraising campaign with approaches to local residents and businesses, with the objective of funding legal and technical experts to present the case at the hearings of the Planning Inspectorate to be held in November 2026.
