New cafe review: The Glade @ Windmill Farm Park
There’s a new café in the village. The Glade recently opened at Windmill Farm Park, Langton Road and three of us went along to try it one Thursday morning. The Glade serves fresh tasty food throughout the day for all the family. Breakfast, light bites and lunch, plus drinks and tasty treats – and, of course, a dedicated children’s menu.
Inside, the cafe is spotless and prettily themed, with a natural feel and a calming colour palette. The seating is comfortable, the kind of place you could happily settle into for a long breakfast. The café has lovely views across the countryside. We arrived at around 9:45 to a very quiet room with no other customers, and with no background music. It felt a little flat. Some gentle music would go a long way, though a busier morning may well fix that on its own.
The welcome was a little low-key too. There was not much of a greeting, and it wasn’t obvious how the ordering worked, though we soon worked out that you order at the counter. A welcoming hello and a quick pointer on where to order would help first-time visitors feel at home. The drinks were a hit. We tried two flat whites and a vanilla matcha latte, and the staff swapped in dairy-free milk without any fuss, which will please anyone avoiding dairy.
Great Food
The food is where the cafe shines. The Glade Breakfast (mushrooms, eggs, tomato and toast) was fresh and well presented, and the bacon ciabatta was equally good. The pancakes with bacon and maple syrup were a generous stack, and the kitchen added an extra egg on request without any trouble. Everything is clearly made to order, so there is a short wait but the portions are generous and the ingredients are good quality. So worth waiting for. At the time there was no outside seating but we believe this may be added later.
Prices: e.g. Glade Breakfast £9.45, Breakfast Ciabatta £6.95, flat white £3.95
Opening hours: 9.00 to 15.00 Thursday to Monday inclusive. Breakfast served until 12.00.
Verdict: A few early-days wrinkles around the welcome and the atmosphere, but the food and drinks are well worth a visit. We’d happily go back, and we hope the village gets behind it.
