The Hallaton Museum

The Hallaton Museum is getting a new permanent display for 2026. It’s at Hallaton Castle, thanks to a grant from the Leicestershire Archaeological and Historical Society’s Public Heritage Fund.
The museum kicked off the season on Easter Monday, which is also the day of the Hallaton Bottle Kicking and Hare Pie Scramble! This new display, called ‘Hallaton Castle, Motte and Bailey’, has been put together by Mathew Morris from Archaeological Services at the University of Leicester (ULAS). It’s packed with fascinating evidence about the castle’s history. You can see the castle just outside Hallaton. It’s easily spotted from the Gaulby Road. Mathew Morris calls it ‘the finest motte and bailey castle in Leicestershire’.
The museum is open on Saturdays and Sundays, and on Bank Holiday Mondays from 2 – 4.30 pm.
