Spring has sprung! We have been enjoying the lighter evenings and have started running our summer routes.

In March we celebrated the contributions and achievements of members at our annual Club Awardsevent with a wonderful meal at ‘The Black Horse.’ The winners were: Best Female Athlete – Bernadette Owen, Best Male Athlete – Adam Niblett, Best Female Performance – Bernadette Owen, Best Male Performance – Sam Pole, Most Improved Male – Gary Lawrence, Most Improved Female – Emily Pierce, Club Member of the Year – Fran Gould, and the Joanne Thacker Memorial Trophy (awarded to a club member who represents Jo’s enthusiasm and attitude) went to Tor Hawley. Best Male and Female Newcomer awards went to Ben Whatton and Bethany Brown. Many more club members were also awarded a certificate for achieving club standards over three different distances. Well done all!

March and April have seen some longer distances being raced.

Lucy Earland ran a PB (2.09.35) at the Cambridge Half Marathon. Gary Lawrence ran his first Half Marathon at Kettering with a time of 2.29.57. Also running Kettering was Fawzia Kauser (2.28.16) and Steve West who achieved a massive PB (2.20.48). We fielded 3 runners in the Ashby 20.  Sam Pounds came in at 2.24, Lorna Muskett at 2.38 and Adam Niblett at 3.04. Great running everyone!

John Clampin is still making the rest of us envious, running in sunnier climes. He achieved an impressive time of 2.06 at the Elche Half Marathon in Spain.

Closer to home, many of us ran the Charnwood Marathon event. Leda Roodabaraky completed the 18 mile route. Sam Pole, Tracey Coates, Jude Hughes, Emily Pierce and Fawzia Kauser completed 27 miles. Sam and Leda also ran the Manx Marathon and Half Marathon respectively. Storm Dave meant that they were running in some challenging conditions.

Congratulations also to our ‘Couch to 5K’ graduates.

You have done it! Club members celebrated the achievements at Market Harborough parkrun with Steven Laird and Hannah Gillett. Steven, Hannah and Peter Condon have continued to run with us. We have also welcomed some new or returning members in recent months. It’s great to have you all on board. The club continues to thrive as a very inclusive, friendly club. Membership season has just begun, so if you have been thinking about joining a local running club, feel free to join us either on a Tuesday evening (alternating between Fleckney and Saddington) or a Thursday evening (Kibworth). Finally, at the time of writing, we all want to wish good luck to Tracey Coates for the London Marathon on Sunday 26 April. Tracey won the club place and is running for local charity The Bodie Hodges Foundation.      FK
