Kibworth Mead Academy

We have had a really positive Spring term so far at KMA.
Monday 2 March was ‘National Offer Day’ when families across the country found out which secondary school their child would be attending. We were delighted that so many families have chosen to send their Year 6 child to be part of our community. We have written to all families who were successful in getting a place at KMA to wish them a warm welcome as they join us in September, and to share with them our extensive plans to support their child’s successful transition.
Success in sports
It has also been a really positive term on the sports field. Our students have competed in a range of sports including football, netball, badminton, rugby and basketball. Highlights included our Year 7 boys’ basketball team, who secured a fantastic victory in the County Cup Semi Final against Loughborough Grammar School. This result means the team now progresses to the County Cup Final, which will be held at the prestigious Leicester Riders Morningside Arena — home of the Leicester Riders.
A further highlight was the performance of the Year 8/9 girls’ football team, who were crowned Blaby & Harborough Champions after an outstanding 5–0 victory against Lutterworth High School in the final. ‘
This term our able mathematicians have been competing in the ‘International Maths Challenge.’ 10 students have achieved Bronze certificates, nine have received silver and two have received gold. We are particularly proud of Harry W in Year 10 and Frank P in Year 11 who have made it through to the next round.
Visit to Warner Brother Studios
Another highlight of the term has been Year 7 visiting the world famous ‘Warner Brother Studios’ tour of Harry Potter. Students were taken to the top floor of the studios for a creative writing session, where they were captivated with the classroom surroundings that included props from the set, as well as scripts and images used whilst filming the box office hits. The creative writing lessons were led by expert teachers, which culminated with students constructing their own screenplay using the props from the film.
Following this, the students had lunch in the great hall and took in the amazing surroundings of dragons, goblins and treats such as butter beer and sweet potions. This was followed by a tour of the studios, taking them on a journey through the sets of the films and bringing the books to life. Highlights include fireworks in the dining hall of Hogwarts, the backlot that has Harry Potter’s home, Weasleys’ flying car, Professor Sprout’s greenhouse and the opportunity to board the Hogwarts express.
As we head towards Easter students who have upheld the school’s values will be recognised with a number of exciting reward events. Over 500 of our students are set to achieve bronze reward status this term, earning a ‘Film in the Hall‘ event with refreshments. In addition, our stunning students are fervently collecting reward points with the hope of achieving silver reward status, in order to attend an ‘Inflatables, Giant Games and Slush Machine Eve’. We are really proud of all our students who consistently demonstrate the school’s values of ‘work hard, be kind, be proud’.
