Fleckney & Kibworth Running Club – March 2026

Well, I’m sure you won’t need me to tell you that the start to 2026 has seen a little bit of rain. This hasn’t stopped the Fleckney and Kibworth runners though. First out of the starting blocks was Ellie Holland. She raced in the Harewood House Trail Races, Canicross 10k in 1.16.
In the final two fell races in the Limestone Series. Sam Pole (48.06), Leda Roodbaraky (65.31) and Emma Boyd (79.09) competed in the Moonriver night race. Sam (2.29.02) and Leda (4.06.39) also ran in the Dovedale Big Daddy race. They finished the series with Sam in overall 4th and Leda, an impressive 2nd, in their age and gender categories.
Leicestershire Road Running League
January saw the first Leicestershire Road Running League race – it should have been the Desford 6, but became the Desford 5 due to a last-minute course change. We fielded 5 runners: Steve King (33:22), Pete Bennett (38:28), Steve West (48:52), Gary Lawrence (54:56) and Tracey Coates (60:09).

January also saw the start of our Couch to 5K course. We welcomed some hardy runners, (yes that’s what you are now!), in some very wet conditions on the first night. They have kept going, shown great support to each other and are now over halfway through. Well done!
We had some strong representation in the Charnwood Hills Race; a challenging local fell race of 14.5 miles over hilly terrain. First in was Lorna Muskett in an impressive 2.10:59, (4th in her category). She was followed by Steve King (2.14:42 – 6th in his category), Bernadette Owen (2.30:23 – 1st in her category!) and Adam Niblett (2.32:48 – 11th in his category).
World-wide running!
John Clampin represented the club in New Zealand, competing in the UTMB World Series event, Tarawera Ultra-Trail 20+k race at the Lake Tikitapu Reserve. He came in at 2.55:10.
Lorna Muskett did an amazing job at the Naseby 1645 race. This was a challenging 16.45 mile route in wind, sleet and rain. Lorna ran an excellent race in 2:13:53. She was the 7th woman home and the 5th in her age category. Well done Lorna!
A Valentine’s Day surprise
Valentine’s Day saw a surprise Parkrun event. Our treasured Bernie Owen marked a milestone birthday, so we thought we would surprise her by having a massive turnout for Market Harborough Parkrun followed by a brunch in town. Bernie is not only much loved, she does a huge amount for the club, including as treasurer, she is also a great inspiration and one of our fastest runners. We love you Bernie!

At the time of writing, we are preparing for the second Leicestershire league race, the Kibworth 6. We want to say a huge thank you to local residents, especially those in Smeeton Westerby, for being so understanding during the road closure. This enables the event to go ahead safely. As a club we donate the profits of the ‘tea and cake’ sales to our club charity, the Bodie Hodges Foundation. This local charity does important work in supporting families who have been bereaved of a child.
