Meet Narumi – The Vet with a Special Interest in Eyes!

Ash Tree Vets

What’s your role?
Narumi says, “I’m one of the vets at Ash Tree with a certificate in veterinary ophthalmology. This means I’ve completed extra training in diagnosing and treating eye conditions in pets, including both medical and surgical cases. Because of this training, I can offer advanced eye care from complex corneal surgeries to eyelid procedures and management of chronic eye conditions. I love being able to combine detailed medical care with surgery when needed, giving pets the best chance for comfort and long-term vision.”
Why eyes?
“I’ve been fascinated by eyes since I was a young vet. I was amazed at how such a small organ could have so many different problems. And at how quickly the right treatment could improve a pet’s comfort and quality of life. That curiosity grew over time and led me to complete further training; it’s now my special focus in practice.”
Where have you worked before?
“I started my career at Ash Tree. Then moved to Australia to work as a vet for several years before returning to Surrey. And now I’m back at Ash Tree!”
What cases do you enjoy the most?
“I particularly enjoy managing medical eye conditions like dry eye, corneal ulcers, uveitis, and glaucoma, as well as supporting pets with long-term or recurring eye problems. Eye issues can look worrying, (red, squinty eyes are hard to ignore!), so I always aim to explain things clearly and make treatment plans manageable and reassuring. I love helping pets feel more comfortable and seeing the difference early treatment can make.”
What do you do outside of work?
“Semi-regular gym-goer, occasional runner, beginner at pottery, and coffee shop/brunch enthusiast!”
