African Village Dream (AVD)

Join us to hear the story of a dream.

Gambia is the smallest country in Africa and has a population of less than 3 million people. The story of a small team working through a Registered Charity (no. 1213887) to support a remote village, Kerr Layen. The village is a 4½ hour drive from the nation’s capital, Banjul.

The dream is for the village to be able to educate its own children, to grow its own food and to thrive independently. With 36 hectares of land for rice, mango, and couscous, the village is aiming for self-sustainability and a hand-built well brings running water for the first time. AVD is also supporting new small businesses – a tailor, a baker and a market garden.

A newly built school currently has 150+ children enrolled, providing two meals a day working from four classrooms, and building has started on an additional two as the numbers grow.

The journey so far is a fascinating story. A stroy which, together with future plans, can be heard from Lee Glasgow, AVD founder.
