Dear Editor – Inequality in a Just World response
With reference to Larry Dolan’s December article entitled ‘Inequality in a Just World’, I am not entirely sure what Larry Dolan is advocating, but if my interpretation is correct, he is proposing that the government should deploy specific policies within a Modern Monetary Theory (MMT) framework to distribute wealth and create a fairer society.
I offer the following two headline comments. Firstly MMT is controversial and a subject of intense debate among economists, indeed, arguably, many of Mr Dolan’s assertions are testimony to that. Economics and distribution of wealth is, of course, not a true science, so there will never be an absolute right or wrong (as history has proven – from Plato to the current day).
Secondly one must trust a government to competently implement something along the lines of MMT, or any other economic idea. Because the topic is so relevant in this age of huge national debts and increasing strains on the economy, it is admirable that Mr. Dolan has raised the issue.
I have an open mind on this matter and would love to debate this further with him. It is a highly complex topic that could easily take up most of an edition of the ‘Kibworth & District Chronicle’; therefore, I invite him to contact the Editor to obtain my contact details.
I will, with Mr Dolans’ approval, share any debates with the ‘Kibworth & District Chronicle ‘(at least a summary) in due course.
