Andrew Carter
One of the most respected composers of English Church music, performed worldwide in both choral and organ settings, was a former York Minster choir member whose work included conducting and advising in Europe, the USA and the Antipodes. He retained a strong sense of humour throughout his life and died at his home in York on Monday 5 January. He always felt he owed so much to his formative years as a pupil of Kibworth Beauchamp Grammar School.
Wikipedia states “A notable moment in Carter’s musical career was a commission in 1997 to write a mass (Missa Sancti Pauli) for the tercentenary celebration of St Paul’s Cathedral in London. In 2007, he composed a 22-variation passacaglia for organ to mark the 90th birthday of the former York Minster organist Francis Jackson.”
