“Thank you and Goodbye!”
Ludger’s final service at St Wilfrid’s Church took place on Advent Sunday, 30 November, when a full church had the opportunity to say farewell to him and Ruth. A shared lunch followed in the Church Hall, attended by about 100 people.
Brought up as a Roman Catholic, Ludger spoke about his father’s wish that there would one day be a priest in the family; this was revealed in a journal kept by his father, which was only discovered after he had passed away. Very fittingly, the diary entry was written on Advent Sunday 30 November 1952, four years before Ludger’s birth and exactly 73 years before his retirement service!
Wishing Ludger and Ruth a happy and fulfilling retirement!
We are so grateful to everything Ludger and Ruth have given to the community over the past 18 years, Ruth having retired from teaching at Fleckney Church of England Primary School in July. They will be leaving Kibworth in December and settling in Staffordshire. Next year they plan to travel around New Zealand, Australia and south-east Asia. We wish them both a very happy and fulfilling retirement.
