News from Smeeton Westerby
As fairy lights are starting to adorn houses, Christmas trees are being decorated and wreathes appearing on front doors, we welcome Christmas to our village and send you all the very best of the season’s greetings. Having held our Christmas Fayre and The Oddfellows Brass Band Christmas Concert, our next two celebrations will also be held in Christ Church.
Firstly, we have ‘Carols with Brass’, a service of seven lessons and Carols on Sunday 21 December at 6:30pm. The evening will culminate with refreshments of Mulled wine, soft drinks and mince pies. On Wednesday 24 December at 4pm, we’ll be holding our Crib Service, where the children can get involved by dressing up as the nativity characters. We do have some costumes but not many. So if you could dress your little one up as an angel, a star, a shepherd, an animal or Mary or Joseph, that would be lovely.
The Kings Head
Although the pub will be welcoming visitors throughout the Christmas period, they are holding a special ‘Mini Christmas Beer Festival’ from Friday 12 to Sunday 14 December. There’s a charity ‘Christmas Acoustic Music Night’ on Saturday 13 December. The next main event will be in the New Year, on Wednesday 7 January. This will be their first Jazz Night of 2026!
Smeeton Westerby Fellowship
A Warm and Open Invitation to all.
If you feel that you need support or are curious about faith, then the Smeeton Westerby Fellowship, which has been meeting in our Village Hall almost every Sunday evening for over a year, is extending a warm invitation to anyone who would like to come along. We are starting a new series of friendly, walk-in evenings on the second Sunday of every month between 5-6pm, beginning on Sunday 14 December, in the village hall.
You are welcome to pop in anytime during the evening. It’s a confidential space where you can receive prayer for healing or any situation you are facing; receive personal, prophetic encouragement; ask any questions about faith or just come along and see what goes on. No pressure, no appointment needed – just a friendly chat and a listening ear. We look forward to welcoming you.
