Foxton Locks Wildlife Engagement Project

Volunteers Wanted Now!

The Canal & River Trust is setting up an exciting programme at Foxton Locks. It is designed to enhance biodiversity, promote environmental education, and foster meaningful engagement with nature. Our intention is to create and establish a Wildflower Meadow, to restore an existing pond area, and to create a series of ‘Butterfly Banks’, to attract pollinators and to enrich the landscape.

The Foxton Locks site is one of the most visited destinations on the waterway network. It serves as vital green space for both the local community and the many visitors. It is home to a number of protected species, including otters, water voles, amphibians, bats and badgers, and is recognised as a designated conservation area.

The new project will further support our conservation work, and give the Trust the opportunity to inspire and educate visitors and groups, as well as encouraging a diverse range of wildlife through the expansion of wildlife habitats.

We urgently need committed volunteers to join this exciting work, normally for one day per week. Volunteers will received targeted training as required, and all necessary equipment will be provided.

To become involved, please contact Helen Renny on 07833 243 155 or Darren Cooper on 07345 751 614. Or alternatively, speak to one of the existing volunteers at the Locks. To find out more about the Canal & River Trust go to www.canalrivertrust.org.uk.
