Christmas Survival Guide – Kibworth Osteopath
Winter, for me, is a time to recharge after the long, carefree days of summer and the bustle of autumn. I love the cosy evenings with family and friends — hot chocolate in hand, card games on the table, a film flickering in the background. That gentle togetherness is part of what helps me restore my energy for the year ahead.
But as December’s whirlwind begins, our usual self-care routines — exercise, journalling, reading, whatever your thing may be — can easily slip away. And nobody wants Christmas (or winter) overshadowed by back pain, stress or burnout.
Top Tips
Here are my top Christmas wellbeing tips to keep you feeling your best:
Get organised. I love a list! Avoiding last-minute stress helps prevent the tight muscles and tension headaches that come with it.
Shop smart. If you’re out shopping, drop bags back in the car regularly. Online? Take screen breaks to avoid ‘tech-neck.’ And when wrapping gifts, please use a table — not the floor!
Travel wisely. On long drives, stop for a five-minute break every 90 minutes, to stretch and reset. Flying? Move about on the plane and take care when lifting luggage—avoid twisting your body.
Stay active. Movement is medicine. Keep up your regular exercise routine and make time for fresh-air walks, even on chilly days.
Mind your posture. Use your favourite supportive pillow if you’re staying away overnight, and take care when lifting hot, heavy dishes from the oven — use your knees and core or ask for help.
Protect your peace. Christmas can be chaotic, so embrace JOMO — the ‘Joy of Missing Out’. It’s perfectly fine to say ‘no’ to events or extra shifts if you need rest.
Feed your mind. Read something inspiring to prepare for the New Year — ‘The Slight Edge’ by Jeff Olson is a wonderful place to start.
And if you’re feeling lonely this Christmas, reach out. The Well in Kibworth is open on Christmas morning for a mince pie, a cuppa, and a friendly smile.
