Road Disruption in Smeeton Westerby

Temporary Traffic Lights
If you have recently travelled through Smeeton Westerby, you will be aware of the temporary traffic lights outside the church.
The reason for these is that during a recent church inspection, concern was raised over the ‘outward lean’ of part of the churchyard wall fronting Saddington Road.
Advice was sought from a firm of structural engineers who will make an in-depth investigation before the Church Council decides on the next course of action.
However, in the meantime, the engineer has advised that there is a risk of the wall collapsing into the road so in the interests of both pedestrians and motorists, the highway authority have closed off half of the footpath and therefore half of the road and installed temporary traffic lights.
This will unfortunately cause much disruption but it is in the interests of public safety.
