Memories of 1975 – 50 years ago
We have lived in Kibworth for more than 50 years and whilst decluttering recently for an upcoming house move, I came across a programme for the Kibworth & Smeeton Show 1975 – 50 years ago, even before The Kibworth Chronicle!
It was held in Kibworth Village Hall and included 57 classes covering contributions of fruit, vegetables, flowers, handicrafts, cakes and preserves (including wine!). There was also a section for children. Each entry was charged 4p and if you won you got a whopping 25p. We were not involved in organising but I do remember winning a prize for a marrow! I thought this might bring back memories for some of your older readers.
We are sorry to leave Kibworth but we feel so pleased that we found such a friendly and vibrant village in which to settle and bring up our family. Reading the Chronicle, it is obvious that this is still true today, although maybe not a village anymore! We’re not going far (Market Harborough) so will not lose touch with our many friends.
