Methodist Matters – Oct 2025

Methodist church

Free chairs

We will be taking delivery of new chairs for both Church and School Room around the end of October. Many of the old chairs will be available for anyone wishing to take away between one and 50. They are free of charge (although a nominal donation to the Methodist Relief Charity “All We Can” would be welcome). They consist of a varied mixture of upright hard plastic and upholstered chairs.

You can view/reserve them by arrangement during the week commencing 20 October. Please telephone Roger Piper on the number below for collection after the new chairs have been delivered.

This month’s services

Once again, this month our services are being led by a wide variety of ministers and preachers, some local and others from as far away as Gibraltar (Sunday 2 November). This enables services to be varied; and whilst generally traditional, we are happy to include drama, modern hymns, and other content when appropriate. Coffee is served after the service.

Harvest Festival

Remembrance Sunday

Although the main village Act of Remembrance takes place at the War Memorial, and subsequently inside St Wilfrid’s; we are aware that some (particularly the elderly) prefer a quieter act of worship. Those attending our church can still participate with the rest of the village by watching the parade as it passes our premises. The service then commences at approximately 10.30am, after the procession has passed by.

And finally…

Three friends died and went to heaven. At the orientation meeting they were asked ‘When you are in your coffin and friends/family are mourning you, what would you like to hear them say about you?

The first said ‘He was a great doctor and a caring family man.’

The second said ‘That I was a wonderful husband and school teacher who made a huge difference to the children of tomorrow’.

The third said ‘I would like to hear them say, “Look, he’s moving”.’
