Kibworth & Fleckney Rotary Club Golf Day
On Friday 15 September, Kibworth and Fleckney Rotary Club held their annual Charity Golf Day at Kibworth Golf Club. At one o’clock the 18, 4-ball teams teed off simultaneously, a shot gun start, from all 18 tees. We were lucky with the weather and, after a fun round of golf, the teams all congregated back at the clubhouse for a buffet meal.
The charity this year was the Trussell Trust, supporting 1,400 food banks across England Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. In total we raised well over £2000. The Trust’s motto is ‘We exist so that everyone may be free from Hunger’. Our golf day made a bit of difference to those in our country without food, and at the same time we had a most enjoyable day. I have to admit for the first time ever, I was on the winning side.

However, on a very sad note I have to report the sad loss of our on course photographer, Richard Ward, who died suddenly, only a week or so after our event. Every year photos have been taken as the golfers approached Richard at a designated hole. As we attempted that perfect tee shot or tried to rescue our ball out of the bunker, Richard, with a great sense of fun, would be there to capture our delight or embarrassment! Richard would then grab us for a team shot before we moved on. Richard gave up his time, in all weathers over many years, to support this event.
His family have become close friends of our Rotary Club, and our hearts go out to them as they come to terms with their loss.
