News from Smeeton Westerby
As we head into Autumn, we celebrated the last of the summer with our annual Village BBQ in the field behind Christ Church. With the marquee, tables and chairs, BBQs and music all set up for 5pm, people started to arrive. The music was turned up, the first pint pulled and then the fun began. This is always a most enjoyable village event and this year was no exception. The following weekend was not only a Beer Fest at The Kings Head but also our Driving Treasure Hunt that took the competitors all around the beautiful countryside of The Langtons, ending at our pub where a BBQ was laid on. ‘The Farmers Forum’ won this year and we were delighted to hand over to them the privilege of organising next year’s hunt!
Dates for your Diary
Wednesday 17 September
We will be holding our MacMillan Coffee Morning, 10.30-12noon in the Village Hall. Although a little earlier than the usual date, this fits in with our scheduled CoCo morning. Please do come along. All donations will of course go to MacMillan. Also, all other money raised over the year at these monthly coffee mornings will now go to LOROS, who we believe are also very much in need of funding support.
Friday 17 October
Our Harvest Supper will take place in the Village Hall where we share a delicious meal. Please ring Philippa on 0116 279 3841 to book your place.
Saturday 6 December
We will be holding our annual Christmas Fayre, 2-4.30pm, again in the village hall. Santa will of course be visiting us and there will be refreshments and stalls to amuse the adults. If you would like to hire a table at the cost of £15, please ring Janet on 07950 409 610.
Christ Church
Our full programme of services resumes again in September, but we have made a few changes to the order. The first Sunday of the month is still our very popular Holy Communion, but the second Sunday is now Morning Prayer and the third Sunday, our Express Family all-age service. We offer a very warm welcome to everyone and really look forward to seeing you there.
The Kings Head
Saturday 20 September, the Slim Jim Blues Band will be playing from 7pm, so why not come down and enjoy the fun. Friday 26 September, in collaboration with Kibworth Books, the acclaimed food author, Diana Henry, will be giving a talk, followed by a Q&A session in the village hall before moving to the pub for nibbles and book signings.
Also in October, look out for an Oktoberfest and then a celebration of Beaujolais Nouveau in November.
