Last Minute Theatre – Sept 2025

“Jubilee”

In early 2000, an eclectic mix of young and old gathered together at the Grammar School Hall. There, under the direction of Richard Green, they gave birth to Last Minute Theatre.
On Friday 26 September and Saturday 27 September, we present ‘JUBILEE’ – our 25th Anniversary production. The cabaret style show comprises ‘favourites’ from the last quarter century.
25 years of history
In trawling through 25 years of our history, there has been an emotional rollercoaster of laughter, tears, and wonderment. And many mind-boggling memories and discoveries!
Many of our ‘then’ children have stayed with Last Minute Theatre. They sometimes dipped in and out as they’ve pursued careers, been to University, moved from the area, had children of their own and so on. But it’s always great to see them again even if it’s only for a one-off production.
From youngest to oldest
We have always been an all-inclusive group. Over the 25 years, we have been privileged to be part of so many journeys. Each of us learning from one another and enriching all of our lives. For ‘Jubilee’, our ages range from 9 to 89!
Our youngest performer in this show actually appeared on stage ‘en ventre sa mere’. Her Mum played a pregnant bride (wearing her own wedding dress, suitably loosened!) in one of our Murder Mysteries “A Shotgun Wedding”! At the tender age of 3, our youngest ever performer, played Cinderella’s footman. Her sole line, perfectly delivered and on time, being “Giddy-up”. Now 17, she will grace the stage again in ‘Jubilee’!
Whilst working through the archives, I found the original cast list with telephone numbers. Each was a land-line number (of course) and local too – except for one!
I hovered over it, wondering whether that person may still live ‘down south’ and have retained the number. Highly unlikely and anyway, I would surely be categorised as a nuisance call. Nevertheless, I rang the number. To cut a long story short (ok, I know it’s not my forte) I found myself talking to the son of the right person!
Suffice to say that, although the very first Chairman of the GSH Trustees, and a founder member of Last Minute Theatre, will be away on holiday for our show, he will be involved with ‘Jubilee’ by video!
Sadly, a good number of our group have passed away since LMT was formed.
We do, though, feel very blessed to have had such wonderful friends, all of whom have left their mark with so many lovely memories.
