Kibworth Cricket Club

2025 has again marked a year of remarkable achievements for the Kibworth Cricket Club, both on and off the field.

On the field, the junior teams have truly shone. Early in the season, KCC made history by becoming the first club in over five years to win three different Leicestershire and Rutland Youth Cricket League junior age group competitions in the same season, with successes for our U13s, 15s and 17s boys.

The under-13s marked their cup victory by defeating Barrow in finals day at Lutterworth before reaching the national semi-final. They put up a valiant effort against Carrington and Cavaliers from Nottinghamshire in Yorkshire. They were nevertheless defeated in a close match, one step away from the national final at Lord’s. Meanwhile, the under-15s showcased their talent by similarly progressing through to the national last eight stage. They narrowly missed out to Lutonian Cricket Club from Bedfordshire.

The juniors’ ongoing success promises a bright future. They aim to continue their development and eventually join the senior squads. A massive credit must go to outgoing Junior Chairman Chris Long, who has overseen this period of great success.

The (adult) first team showed impressive form this year, likely securing a second-place finish with a young, mostly homegrown squad. Similarly, the seconds, thirds, and fourths have also enjoyed commendable performances throughout the season.

The women’s section of Kibworth Cricket Club is flourishing like never before

Not to be left out, the women’s section of Kibworth Cricket Club is flourishing like never before. Playing their inaugural season in the East Midlands Women’s Cricket League Premier Division, the section has seen 54 women and girls participate. They narrowly missed bringing home a title in the EMWCL Hundred Ball competition. Huge congratulations go to the driving forces behind the women’s section, who continue to build this fast-growing part of the club.

Off the field, the club has continued to build its reputation by staging notable events. Kibworth proudly hosted its annual Metro Bank One Day Cup fixture for the third time, involving Leicestershire County Cricket Club, attracting over 1,300 attendees eager to see the clash against Nottinghamshire. The weather, as has been reliably splendid over our three years of hosting, and the unwavering support of our volunteer team, added again to the event’s success. The event received glowing feedback, enhancing the club’s and the village’s reputation.

Furthermore, Kibworth has been honoured to host a series of national finals and games for the new semi-professional women’s setup in Leicestershire. This continued commitment to facilitating high-calibre cricket underscores the club’s position as a cornerstone of the cricketing community.
