1st Kibworth Scouts European Adventure

2025 will be a summer to remember for young people and volunteers from 1st Kibworth Scouts. They embarked on a twelve day adventure packed, expedition style trip through Europe! Starting off early one morning at Market Harborough station, they travelled by train. They each had large backpacks and smaller rucksacks on their backs and chests.
After arriving in London they crossed under the channel to Paris by Eurostar. They had a slightly longer transfer planned, they changed stations on foot and ate lunch in the French capital. The final train of the day was a high speed connection to Strasburg for 3pm. This was where the scouts would spend the rest of the day exploring the city after checking into their hotel.
International Scout Centre
The following day and still full of excitement, they set off again by train after a typically French breakfast. This time headed to Kandersteg Scout Centre in the Swiss Alps where they would stay for the next seven nights.
Kandersteg village has been home to the International Scout Centre for over a hundred years. A permanent Scout camp with activities all year round, attended by thousands of scouts from all around the world. The Scouts got to embrace different cultures and nationalities and take part in a range of different activities keeping them busy everyday.
They went on an overnight climbing expedition staying in a mountain hut. This they shared this with a group of German scouts. They went river rafting down the river Aare to the capital Bern; zip-wired, climbed rock faces, hiked to mountain lakes, mountain coasted, and attended culture nights in the Swiss village. The international campfire was held on the last night with thousands of Scouts from across the world coming together, and where three of our members were invested around the campfire, a huge celebration as people raced to congratulate them and cheer them on.
As it was time to leave Switzerland, they boarded the train for Dijon. Here a local church provided a place for an overnight stay.
The scouts had stayed in a hotel, mountain hut, Swiss chalet, camped in tents, slept in a church and now the final two days of the trip which would be spent staying in a city apartment in Paris.
They visited the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and the Notre Dame Cathedral.
Paris was a totally different experience! A busy urban city they visited all the major sight: Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Notre Dame Cathedral. Then finally it was time to return home, with so many amazing experiences and stories, every one had a truly fantastic time.
As they reached London, their final train home to Market Harborough was cancelled twice. This was the first train issue or even delay of the whole trip! They made it back just thirty minutes behind schedule to a crowd of family members and a very warm welcome home!
Every adventure is made possible thanks to the amazing work by our volunteers. Huge thank you to our young people but importantly to our volunteers Sam, Pete, James and Ed for making this possible.
