Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that affects the mesothelium, a thin membrane that lines the inner surface of the chest wall, the abdomen and the testicles. More men develop mesothelioma but rates among women continue to increase.
Exposure to asbestos is responsible for nine out of ten mesothelioma cases and 94% of cases of mesothelioma are preventable.
According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the UK has the highest incidence of mesothelioma in the world.
