Land opening

On Saturday 26 April, we celebrated the official opening and donation of our new land and outdoor facility. Over 100 people joined us for three hours of fun outdoor activities, including axe and tomahawk throwing, cooking on fire, and lawn games.

The land, which we all pass daily as we cross the railway to and from the village High Street, was once farmland used for grazing cattle. It was partly cleared for the temporary footbridge erected since the new bridge opened last year.

This special event was in memory of the late owners, Frank Douglas Simons and Beatrice Christine Woolley (Doug and Beatie). We were honoured to have Doug and Beatie’s family and friends join us to declare the land open.

This space will provide a safe space for our local young people to enjoy the outdoors. We’re grateful to many who’ve helped and supported us, especially TLR Lawn and Garden Maintenance for transforming the site and involving our young people. Mark Waterfield built a fantastic outdoor classroom, and Crouch Recovery manoeuvred our old train wagon into place.

Funding from HDC and continued support from our Ward Cllrs, King and Whelband, enabled the project. Most importantly, we thank Doug and Beatie’s families for their incredible generosity in donating the land.

For many generations of young people, this land will be their world, a place to make special memories and learn amazing skills.

St. George’s day – Clem Webb award

Immensely proud day for 1st Kibworth as we are awarded the Harborough District Clem Webb Award; an award for hitting new heights an amazing achievements.

A huge well done to everyone and thank you to everyone who makes our group so great.

Our outstanding membership numbers, both leaders and young people, achievements with activities and hard work creating a brand new outdoor education facility stood out amongst all the fantastic work around the district.

Jean Webb presented the award to a number of our members.

Community walk (sponsored walk of old)

Bank holiday Monday 5th May, approx 100 people joined us walking one of the four routes. 15,10,6 or 2.8 miles.

It was a huge success- turning the old sponsored walk into a community walk with use of modern technology. Digital maps, clever WhatsApp notifications and tracking devices allowed us to coordinate everyone on the routes.

Well done to everyone who took part and a huge thank you for joining us.

VE Day
