Kibworth Mead Academy News

At Kibworth Mead we aim to give our students lots of different opportunities to shine. Two areas we would like to highlight this month are maths and athletics.

Opportunities to Shine

Maths: Our Y7 and Y8 mathematicians recently took part in the UK Junior Maths Challenge. Students pitted their wits against the creative, problem-solving questions set by the leaders at the UK Maths Trust, and did extremely well.

Specific mention goes to the top five students in each year group:

Year 7: Max F, Thomas H, Oliver S, Kian L, Oscar H.

Year 8: Fred H, James T, Jack F, Bryn D, Tegan L.

The top three students (in italics) have made it through to the next round, which will take place as this goes to print.

These upward competitions within the UK Maths Trust represent a really challenging level of mathematics, so to even qualify, let alone score so well in them is a highly impressive achievement. This builds on the astounding success of our older students in the Intermediate Maths Challenge which took place earlier in the spring term, with six students who made it through the Pink and Grey Kangaroo rounds.

Particular congratulations go to students who achieved best in Year: Hattie H, Frank P and Harry W. Hattie H impressed the judges so much she has been invited by UK Maths Trust to participate in their Summer School for outstanding mathematicians. Well done all!

Athletics

Athletics: The summer term at KMA is when our students hone their athletics skills. It was a delight to see just under 100 students representing our school last month at the annual area athletics event hosted at Saffron Lane.

Our students proved to be exemplary ambassadors, upholding our school’s core values with consistency throughout the day. The overwhelming support from parents, who filled the stands with cheers, added to the vibrant atmosphere of the occasion.

Notable highlights included the coordinated efforts of our relay teams, numerous personal bests in various track and field events, and impressive performances across all year groups.

As a result of our excellent performance on the day, ten talented KMA athletes qualified to represent KMA at the County Finals at Loughborough University.

Our team, made up of Emily D, Rosie A, Nancy L, Sam P, Harry F, Fleur H, Evelyn J, Harriette G, Ben D, and Dimitris P, performed exceptionally well across a range of events, demonstrating not only their athletic talent but also their determination, sportsmanship, and team spirit.

Giving their all

Many of our students progressed through their heats to reach the finals, placing highly against some of the best young athletes in the county. Whether it was on the track or in the field, each competitor gave their all and supported one another throughout the day. Notable performances included strong sprint finishes, impressive jumps, and powerful throws – each moment contributing to a fantastic team effort.

We are really proud to have all of these young people represent KMA and inspire future students.

Open evening: advance notice that our Year 6 Open evening is on Thursday 18 September 5:30-7:30. Please see website for details.
